Telegram shows your phone number to contacts by default and needs one to create an account. A separate Telegram virtual number lets you run a channel, a community or a bot project without linking it to your personal SIM. "Too many attempts" and flood waits
Telegram limits how often a device or network can request codes. If you see "too many attempts, please try again later", stop requesting codes for a while (often several hours). Secure the account right away
Once registered, open Settings, Privacy and Security, and:
- Turn on Two-Step Verification (cloud password) and add a recovery email. This is the most important step, because it stops anyone who later gets the same number from taking over the account.
- Set "Phone number" visibility to Nobody.
- Keep at least one device logged in. If Telegram asks for an SMS code on a new device and the one-time number has expired, the cloud password and active session protect you.
